Cântecul a provocat controverse considerabile datorită titlului său sugestiv și a videoclipului muzical explicit, care ilustra scenele de exces și violență sexuală, consum de droguri. Refrenul piesei a fost selectat din cântecul "Give the Drummer Some" de la Ultramagnetic MCs. În 2010, piesa a fost votată drept cea mai controversată dintre toate timpurile într-un studiu realizat de PRS for Music. Tradus din argou, titlul piesei inseamna 'sa-mi mai trag o injectie cu heroina ca sa uit de toate', or..whatever asemanator. Nu este de mirare ca Flint a dat coltul la 49. A cantat exact infernul mintii lui. Si a ca devastator de bine.

Desi ilustratia copertei acestui album semnat Thelonious Monk  poate parea ciudata pentru neinitiati, pentru cei care l-au cunoscut personal pe artist, aceasta le va aduce aminte de o zona dedicata creatiei, facand parte din apartamentul sau situat in Manhattan. In acest spatiu se afla memoriile unei vieti aventuroase si pline de satisfactii. Probabil, cea mai notabila dintre acestea, este luptatorul nazist. La fel de real cum pare,  acesta nu este decat o paiata umpluta cu paie si o memorie – un trofeu inspaimantator al lui Monk erijat in simpatizant al Rezistentei Franceze in timpul Razboiului II Mondial. De data asta Monk este capitanul inarmat care strapunge inima criminalului cu un strigat: ‘Take That’!

Piesa ‘Neal and Jack and Me’ apartine formatiei King Crimson si se afla pe albumul ‘Beat’. Acest ‘cantec’ este, cel mai probabil, ascociat literaturii si unor personaje din perioada miscarii Beat.

“Jack” este fara doar si poate Jack Kerouack – autorul romanului ‘On the Road’ -  Neal este Neal Cassady, prietenul excentric al lui Kerouack, intruchipat in personajul Dean Moriarty din romanul respectiv.

Piesa reflecta fanteziile lui Adrian Belew, in care acesta s-ar fi aflat alaturi de Kerouac si Cassady intr-o calatorie de-a lungul USA, sau intr-un turneu in periferiile cele mai tenebroase ale Parisului.

Ultimately, a good dissociative warble will mark something as psychedelic, but it’s the relation to rhythm that really drives it home. A free-floating a time asynchronous fuzzy guitar line can make us leave our earthly bodies, but so too can a grounded and funky groove if it dives deep enough. Can may not be the greatest krautrock group of all time and Tago Mago may not be their indisputable best, but for a keen and undeniable example of how a deep-pocket funky groove can rewire the brain and body to dream of things beyond the limits of the self, one need go no further. Many words have been said about their famed improvisational vocalist Damo Suzuki, but the real star here is the unimpeachable rhythm section. With grooves this primal and deep, anybody could sound good over them.

Atunci cand un fenomen cultural – sa zicem total psihedelic – necesita un anumit grad de alienare, poate ar trebui sa te orientezi spre Japonia ca punct de plecare spre mai departe, si inca chiar dincolo de lumea asta.

In oarecare masura Can, in oarecare masura Hawkwind, in oarecare masura monstri sacri ai genului Metal, Acid Moters Temple au inregistrat in cele doua decade de existenta o muzica mult peste stadiul de narcoza, pe care orice persoana sanatoasa mental ar dori sa stie sa o perceapa asa cum trebuie.

Rareori muzica se percepe mai vie ca aceasta. Kawbata si compania nu doar ca arata ca niste vrajitori, dar chiar sunt convins ca sunt.

Waka/Jawaka

‘Although it doesn’t happen often, whenever Frank Zappa goes about the task of purging himself of his normal ration of acrimony, contempt, bile and phlegm, he sometimes comes forth with an album that is every bit the musical experience that he always claimed he could produce. With the exception of the astonishing work he and his musicians did on Hot Rats a couple of years ago, much of Zappa’s musical output has been too malnourished to support his artistic pretensions. His excursions into jazz with the Mothers of Invention were never more than pale imitations of Miles Davis and Ornette Coleman, overlayed with effects copped from Edgar Varese, and most of his “serious” compositions contained large helpings from the glut of modern music. Originality has never been Zappa’s strong point.

Waka/Jawaka — Hot Rats, while little more than a long delayed extension of the original Hot Ratsalbum, is one of Zappa’s most enjoyable, less hypertense efforts, and while it may lack the tightness, the rock-based energy of its predecessor, it contains some of the best material he’s done in years. Waka/Jawaka may well be something of a fence-mending job by Zappa after his execrable work on 200 Motels, which has got to be one of the all-time attempts by a musician and composer to discredit himself.

The musicians brought in for Waka/Jawaka are not the stellar personalities that graced Hot Rats.Captain Beefheart and Sugarcane Harris are gone, replaced by newer faces that include Tony Duran on slide guitar, Sal Marquez on trumpets, and Don Preston on Moog and piano. Piese precum ‘Regyptian Strut’ si ‘The Ocean is the Ultimate Solution’ sunt extrem de puternice din punct de vedere instrumental, astfel incat nico interventie vocala nu ar fi putut imbunatati experienta sonora de pe acest album.  Percutia evocatoare de pe ‘Spider of Destiny’, atacul de jazz infricosator dar lent totodata de pe ‘Flambay’, par sa contina o mentalitate comuna de a crea frumusete artistica.

PJ Harvey: Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea

Acesta este marele si stralucitorul album pop al lui PJ Harvey. Daca ‘Is This Desire?’ aparuse intr-un moment de incertitudine (‘Is this desire / Enough, enough?’), pe ‘Stories..’ solista canta in acelasi ton fara echivoc: ‘This is love, this is love, that I’m feeling?’. Chitarele sunt clare, partiturile vocale sunt mai frumoase si mai stralucitoare ca oricand, coperta albumului este eleganta, infatisand un Manhattan in noapte. Chiar si acum, este putin cam greu de crezut ca acest album a existat cu adevarat in portofoliul de albume angoasante ale artistei.

Nepotelele mele, hello! si…auditie placuta (daca va lasa mami, dar nu cred ca e chiar asa ingramadita)!
